Israel has accused Iran of breaking a newly announced ceasefire, brokered by former U.S. President Donald Trump, just hours after agreeing to the terms. This accusation comes following Iran’s launch of at least six missiles toward America’s Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday. Qatar condemned the attack, stating that air defenses successfully neutralized the missiles, and reported no casualties.
Iran’s actions were in retaliation for U.S. strikes against its nuclear program over the weekend. The Iranian government had earlier vowed that the U.S. strike would not go unanswered. The American and British embassies had issued shelter-in-place warnings to their citizens.
Meanwhile, Israel intensified its military operations against Iran overnight, targeting the Evin prison and the headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. In response, Iran’s parliament voted to close the Strait of Hormuz, a significant chokepoint for global oil trade, escalating tensions further. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel had accepted the Trump-brokered ceasefire but accused Iran of breaching this agreement by firing missiles toward Israel.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Israel would “respond forcefully” to Iran’s violation of the ceasefire. “In light of Iran’s blatant violation of the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States, and the launching of missiles toward Israel—and in accordance with the Israeli government’s policy to respond forcefully to any violation—I have instructed the IDF, in coordination with the Prime Minister, to continue the intense operations striking regime targets and terror infrastructure in Tehran,” Katz stated. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) also emphasized their commitment to retaliate, with Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir noting they would “strike with force” in response to Iran’s actions.
Israel-Iran ceasefire breach actions
Iranian state media, however, has denied Israel’s claims of ceasefire violations. Further complicating the situation, the IDF reported intercepting over 15 unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran towards Israel.
Amid these developments, Netanyahu’s office declared that Israel had achieved key objectives of Operation ‘Am K’Lavi,’ including eliminating significant threats posed by Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities. The operation was described as successful in securing “full air superiority” over Tehran’s skies and delivering substantial blows to the Iranian military and government infrastructure. In the past 24 hours, Israeli forces have continued to target key points in Tehran, which included the elimination of another senior Iranian nuclear scientist, according to a statement from Netanyahu’s office.
The statement expressed gratitude towards President Trump and the United States for their support in addressing the Iranian threat, while reaffirming Israel’s resolve to respond to any future violations of the ceasefire agreement. President Donald Trump took to social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday to announce the official start of the ceasefire, urging compliance. “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT.
PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!” Trump posted. Despite the ceasefire announcement, Israeli authorities reported sirens sounding in anticipation of a sixth wave of missiles from Iran shortly after midnight ET, when the ceasefire was supposed to take effect.
Iranian state TV claimed the ceasefire remains in place, though Israeli confirmation was pending. As tensions remain high, alerts have been activated across Israel, with the Israeli Air Force working to “intercept and attack wherever necessary” in response to ongoing missile threats from Iran.
