Israel and Iran have agreed to a fragile ceasefire brokered by the United States and Qatar. The truce took effect early Tuesday morning, but both nations have accused each other of violating the agreement. Former U.S. President Donald Trump warned Israel against launching further attacks on Iran, criticizing both sides for their actions.
Trump urged both nations to respect the ceasefire, noting that a rocket had been fired beyond the time limit. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported missile launches from Iran two hours after agreeing to the truce, which Iran denied. Israel’s military was instructed to continue attacking targets in Tehran in response to the alleged violation.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have struck Israeli military and logistical centers just before the ceasefire began. The IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency reported that Israel launched a three-phase military strike on Iranian territory post-ceasefire. The Israeli prime minister’s office accused Iran of violating the truce, prompting Israel to strike a radar array near Tehran.
Ceasefire tensions escalate with violations
Before the ceasefire, both nations had exchanged heavy fire, resulting in casualties and destruction. Israel’s initial attacks on Iran’s nuclear and military sites on June 13 were in response to concerns over Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
The offensive occurred amid stalled diplomatic talks and international worries about Iran’s uranium enrichment levels. Iran’s health ministry reported 610 deaths and 4,746 injuries due to Israeli strikes since the conflict began. Israel reported four deaths on Tuesday, with a total of 28 deaths since June 13.
Iran claims its nuclear program is for civilian purposes, but the UN nuclear watchdog has raised concerns about the enrichment levels of its uranium. U.S. officials noted that recent strikes have significantly impacted Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The situation remains tense, with both countries on high alert as the international community closely monitors for further developments.
Diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region are ongoing.
